Adventure Travel

For all those of you bored with city breaks or traditional beach holidays and who yearn for something a little more exotic, risky or challenging or if you have a thirst for adventure or seek a challenge which requires physical exertion, learning new skills or takes you out of your personal comfort zone placing you in unfamiliar and often challenging situations then look no further than an adventure holiday.

Once the preferred holiday choice of the privileged few there has been a dramatic increase in the popularity of Adventure tourism and of companies offering such holidays in recent years to far flung and exotic and remote locations many of which are off-the beaten track with little or no tourism infrastructure and with no consideration for the environmental impact or for the local culture and indigenous people.

The popularity for this type of holiday has been fuelled by numerous TV travel shows and documentaries, the proliferation and cheap cost of air and sea transport and by people’s new found interest in the world around them and in their desire to explore and to test themselves in unfamiliar environments and situations.  For many the Sunlust motivation to travel has been replaced by the wanderlust one as peoples thirst for adventure and for even greater challenges to test their own abilities, expand their own education and to experience new cultures.  Some areas now being explored are so off the beaten-track that they lack even the basic facilities and infrastructure normally associated with tourist destinations and expected by most travellers, so travellers need to take this into account.

Some of the activities which fall under the adventure tourism umbrella are:-

  • Mountaineering
  • Trekking
  • Bungee jumping
  • Rock climbing
  • Exploring
  • Paragliding
  • Kayaking
  • Rafting
  • Hiking Mountain
  • Biking
  • Cycling
  • Scuba diving
  • Canoeing and a lot more
  • Extreme Tourism
  • Jungle Tourism
  • Zip-wiring
